HOT GOSS

ISSUE NO. 05 ★ THE FLOUR CHILD FILES: HOT GOSS ★ AUGUST 2026 ★

Ahh girlies, it feels good to be back. I never technically left, but this is my creative outlet. My hobby, if you will. Some people knit. Some people run marathons. I write deeply important cultural commentary from the comfort of my Notes app.

This month’s issue covers dating…YIKES, adult hobbies and some juicy, juicy goss. Allegedly.

HOT TAKE: BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH FOR A FIRST DATE

Am I willing to test this theory personally? Absolutely not. Not in this dating market. But I am willing to explain my reasoning, back it up with data I have personally invented and send the divas on their merry way.

First dates are already awkward. You’re trying to look hot while remembering their job, pretending you didn’t stalk their LinkedIn and working out whether their relationship with their mother is sweet or slightly concerning.

Bottomless brunch removes several variables.

You get two hours to work out whether they’re funny, unlimited drinks if they’re not, and pinsa to fill any awkward silences. If the conversation is flowing, gorgeous. If it isn’t, you can spend seven minutes discussing the toppings.

There’s also a clear end time, which is very important. No wondering whether you should order another drink. No getting trapped on a six-hour date because neither of you knows how to leave. Two hours. Clean. Efficient. Romantic, but with boundaries.

Worst-case scenario? The date is terrible, but you still had lunch and several cocktails. That’s not failure. That’s a package deal.

My conclusion: bottomless brunch is the perfect first date. I will not be taking questions or participating in the research.

HOT GOSS: I’ve heard something…

Good goss is hard to find. But when you have supersonic hearing, an average screen time of eight hours a day and absolutely no respect for the phrase “don’t tell anyone,” anything is possible.

So, what have I heard through the grapevine? Funny you should ask.

Apparently, Flour Child is bringing its cooking classes to the weekend.

Yes, babe. The activity you have all been popping up in our DMs asking for is finally happening. And this isn’t one of those cooking classes where you stand silently around a stainless-steel bench while someone explains the emotional complexity of an onion (it’s always gonna make us cry).

You’ll be welcomed with a spritz, snack on pinsa, enjoy bottomless premium wines and beers, and make pasta from scratch alongside our chefs. Then we cook it, sauce it and serve it to you like the domestic goddess you’ve briefly become.

You’ll even make an extra portion to take home, plus leave with a jar of sauce. Dinner tomorrow? Sorted. Evidence that you have your life together? Secured.

The first class lands on Sunday, 30 August, for $99pp.

That’s the goss. Tell everyone, but make sure you book before they do.

HOT TREND: ADULT HOBBIES ARE SO BACK

Adult hobbies are hot again. We’re done collecting situationships and Ooshies from Woolworths (this is aimed at my flatmate). Now, we collect hobbies.

Pottery. Run club. Book club. Sewing. Painting tiny fruit onto ceramics. Dare I say…cooking classes?

At some point, we collectively realised that scrolling for six hours while the television plays in the background is not technically a hobby. Devastating news for me personally.

Now everyone is searching for an activity that gives them a little spark back. Something to do with their hands. Somewhere to meet people that isn’t a dating app or the smoking area. A reason to leave the house that doesn’t end with buying another little treat.

The best adult hobbies have three important qualities:

  1. You don’t have to be good at them.
  2. They give you something to talk about.
  3. There should ideally be wine involved.

It’s not about becoming the next master potter, marathon runner or Italian nonna. It’s about trying something new, being mildly humbled and posting one aesthetically pleasing photo so everyone knows you’re a person with interests.

And if your hobbies still include long lunches, cocktails and ordering one more thing for the table, you know where to find us. Some traditions deserve protecting x

Lucky number episode five, we’re officially halfway through the season. Please hold your applause until the end.

As always, we don’t make the trends. We simply report on them slightly before everyone else does.

See you next month. Never forget who you are divas.

Mwah x
