WE DO EVENTS | More Info
You know that first warm evening when you leave work, realise it’s still light outside and immediately feel like you should be doing something?
It’s like, hang on a minute. I’m sitting on my bed, the sun is still out, and I can feel the winter blues leaving my soul. I’ve been given a new lease on life, but it’s literally just an extra hour of daylight.
Dinner out, a beach walk, a little drinky-poo somewhere. A run if you’re feeling particularly crazy. Literally anything that doesn’t involve going straight home and putting on the pyjamas you’ve been thinking about since 9am.
Yeah, I know we’re on the same page.
Summer has a funny way of making us available again. The friend who’s been “so busy” since May? Free on Thursday a nd honestly, I love this for us.
So, in the interest of making the most of the season, here are a few things I think deserve a spot on your summer calendar.
Somewhere along the way, lunch became something we eat while replying to emails. A sad development. Who approved that?
Summer is your invitation to give it a little more attention.
Find a table, order something you’ve been wanting to try and catch up with the friend whose life updates currently arrive exclusively via voice notes. Preferably order a few things to share, because watching someone else’s food arrive and immediately regretting your choice is a deeply avoidable experience.
At Flour Child, pinsa and a proper catch-up are a very good place to start. Our new summer menu also has plenty worth sharing, although you might reconsider once you’ve had the first bite.
Your inbox will still be there afterwards. She’s persistent like that.
Pack the sunscreen. Bring the book you’ve been trying to finish every time you catch a break. Have a swim, take a walk and spend some time staring at the water instead of your screen.
The ocean is so tranquil. Suddenly, the email that annoyed you this morning feels significantly less interesting.
You don’t need an itinerary for every minute. Sometimes the plan can simply be “be outside”.
And if your beach day happens to end in St Kilda, come past Flour Child afterwards. You’ve had fresh air, you’ve had a dip, and now you’re hungry.
I believe we can help with the third thing.
“We should do something soon” has had a very successful career doing absolutely nothing.
This summer, give her a date. A time. A booking confirmation.
Make it bottomless brunch, organise a birthday lunch or get everyone together just because you haven’t seen each other properly in ages.
There’s something lovely about sitting around a table with your favourite people, sharing pinsa and hearing a story that requires hand gestures, background information and at least three interruptions.
Some conversations deserve more than a reaction emoji.
A cooking class. Painting. Surfing. Finally learning what to do with the herbs you keep buying and quietly abandoning in the fridge.
Summer is a good time to pick up a hobby, especially one that gets you out of the house.
Our cooking classes are here if you fancy getting your hands floury and making something delicious. Bring a friend, make it a date or come ready to discover whether your confidence in the kitchen is justified.
Either way, you’ll have something to talk about afterwards.
I understand having a usual. Seeing it arrive makes me feel on top of the world. She’s reliable. She knows me. We have history.
But a new season deserves a little curiosity, and our summer menu gives you plenty to work with. Think Italian flavours, bright seasonal ingredients and a citrus twist through our Think Cointreau collaboration.
Choose the dish you keep looking at. Try a different cocktail. Order something for the table purely because everyone wants a bite.
You might find a new favourite. Your usual will cope.
So, consider this your invitation to make some plans. Send the message, book the table and give that summer outfit somewhere to go.
See you in Richmond or St Kilda, divas x
