The best moments of 2020

On the 21st of December 2019, Flour Child St Kilda opened their doors for the very first time, delivering a new and innovative creation in pizza and bar culture on Acland street.
It didn’t take long for the “new kids on the block”, to claim their position as the “new place to be” in St Kilda. As soon as you enter, you know this place is different. It’s a little bit classy but boasts a whole lot of character. The cocktails are made to please the eyes and the palate. The pizza is light and fluffy, so you can eat and drink all day long without that bloated feeling that we all hate… And the tunes instantly lift your mood. You know it will be a good day if it’s spent at Flour Child.
One year on, and what a year it has been! We have certainly learnt to roll with the punches… but we wouldn’t have it any other way! Reflecting back over a year that we would probably all like to forget, we can’t help but reminisce on the incredible parties we were able to host in 2020 …
So, in true New Years spirit, here is the top five list of events at Flour Child St Kilda for the year 2020!
New Year’s Eve 2019 & NYD 2020:
Okay, so this was technically 2019 but it was a welcome into what we thought “was going to be our year”, in some ways, it still was. We started off with a modest introduction, (nobody likes a show off…), with a “nothing too fancy” NYE event for all of those who like to leave their New Year’s Eve plans till the very last minute. We welcomed casual diners to explore our brand-new cocktail and Pinsa Romana pizza menu for a low-key New Year’s Eve. And boy, did it go off without a hitch!
For New Year’s Day, we provided the prefect hideaway to nurse the hangover… St Kilda locals ventured up the stair case to experience the best view on Acland street, sipping on tempting concoctions and snacking the day away.
It was small, but a perfect way to start to the year! We did say we wanted a modest introduction…
WHAT’S THE PLAN THIS YEAR?
But, after the year we have had, we are ready to kick our extroverted personality into full gear. This year, our NYE plans are anything but small! If you’re like almost every Melbournian, and still looking for a NYE or NYD party to attend, we have a special treat for you. The gloves are coming off as we celebrate in “true St Kilda style” with a “Coachella NYE”. Or, if you’ve been dreaming of that overseas holiday that you may not get to go on for a couple of years now, we will take you to IBIZA on NYD.
Australia Day 2020:
To celebrate the true-blue Aussie holiday, we did what we do best… created a pavlova cocktail and Aussie Pinsa Romana pizza! And trust us, these were anything but simple! Our pavlova cocktail even had a meringue on top! We haven’t forgotten about Australia Day 2021, keep following us for more info coming soon…
Valentine’s Day 2020:
Your relationship status was less important to us at Flour Child. Of course, we welcomed the loved-up couples for a romantic and moody night spent gazing into each other’s eyes over a bottle of champagne ? but, we are strong believers that all our singles should still feel the love on V ’Day too! So, we welcomed the gals (and the boys) for a “galantines” night. And look, we can’t be sure, we could just be spreading rumors, but we saw a few meets happening this night. Who knows, maybe some of those singles will be coming back this year with a new relationship status…
Lockdown 2020:
We had a good start to the year and then… well you know the story, no ones stopped talking about it…
WE HIT LOCKDOWN!! And our doors were forced to close. We were devastated!
We know it was for the greater good, blah blah, but its tough for an extrovert to live in solitary let me tell you…
Anyway, after a small tantrum, we picked our bottom lip up off the ground and decided to bring you Flour Child “lockdown style”! Releasing our very first takeaway menu! It included take home Pinsa Romana pizza’s and DIY pizza kits- virtually impossible to screw that one up- if you did, maybe a cooking class should be on your list as a New Year’s resolution, which we can help you with! But we are getting ahead of ourselves. But of course, our takeaway menu would not be complete without a cocktail list for the ages! At one point, we even sold these bad boys on the street! Felt a little bit like we were hustling on the street at one point, but it was actually a fun few months. Not as fun as we would have been having with the doors open, but we made do!
And then… we finally made it out! Thank you, Melbourne!
Spring racing:
So, to celebrate our new found freedom, we decided to really crank it up a notch. The weather was getting warmer and we just felt like a big party was well deserved. So, we hosted three epic Spring Racing events: Derby Day, Oaks Day and Melbourne Cup Day! They all featured bottomless beverage packages- they even included cocktails (we were feeling pretty generous at that point), and a three-course meal! We had makeup touch ups, DJ’s on the decks and best dressed prizes! It was a big week of celebrations and we loved every second of it! Obviously by now you get the gist that we like to party…
And so, that brings us to where we are today. Ready for the next big event and ready to bid 2020 farewell! We have big plans for 2021! So, if you enjoyed yourself at Flour Child in 2020, get ready for an even bigger and better year ahead!
We hope to see you over New Year’s as we kiss 2020 goodbye for good!
