FEELING HOT, HOT, HOT!

Australia Day is known for many things but our favourite by far is getting boozy and listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown.
It has been an Aussie tradition since 1989 and a tradition as old as the Triple J station itself. Voters even use to mail in their votes for their favourite tracks…talk about dedication!
Originally called ‘Hot 100’ Triple J changed the rules so the same song couldn’t win multiple years in a row. A mini hiatus in 1992 meant that in ’93 “The freshly-named Hottest 100 was relaunched as a yearly poll of the top tunes from the past 12 months” (ABC). In more recent times, the date of the countdown changed and is no longer held on the 26th January. Instead, the countdown is now on the Saturday before the public holiday (23rd of January).
In anticipation for countdown, we thought we would take a look back on the number 1 top spots for the last 30 years to get you all excited for the big day.
